January is right around the corner in Portland Oregon and with the start of a brand-new year this means that there is going to be plenty of things to do for you to add to your schedule.

In this post we will share with you some of the upcoming events to add to your Portland Oregon Events Calendar:


Love chocolate? You won’t want to miss ChocolateFest, a weekend dedicated to sampling and savoring everything from artisan truffles to drinking chocolate from more than 80 exhibitors at the Oregon Convention Center.

Rose City Rollers Roller Derby

Portland’s all-female flat-track roller derby league, the Rose City Rollers, holds local and national bouts at the historic Oaks Park rink in Southeast Portland from January to June.

Chinese New Year at Lan Su Chinese Garden

The two-week Chinese New Year celebration, held in late January and early February at Lan Su Chinese Garden, includes lion dances, children’s activities, martial arts and cultural and historical demonstrations. The festivities culminate with a traditional lantern-viewing ceremony. (Note: The Lan Su Chinese Garden will be closed from Nov. 23, 2015–late Jan., 2016, as it undergoes refurbishments.)

Fertile Ground Festival

Founded in 2009, Fertile Ground is focused on new Portland art. The 10-day, citywide festival showcases play premieres, art installations, events and even in-progress projects, all created by local artists.

Reel Music Festival

For 30 years, the Reel Music Film Festival has presented movies about music and musicians of every genre and era. Spanning several weeks, the Northwest Film Center festival often features live appearances by musicians and filmmakers.

Chamber Music Northwest Winter Festival

Known for its popular summer series, Chamber Music Northwest also presents a suite of concerts in late January/early February.

Winter Weather Means More Fun Indoors

Although Portland is seeing it’s fair share of winter weather right now the good thing is that there’s still plenty of things to do indoors across Portland in the coming weeks.

If you’re new to Portland or are planning on visiting the city in the near future here are some ideas for things you can do indoors across Portland Oregon:

Nightlife – Portland has a vibrant nightlife which includes awesome dance clubs, karaoke bars, bowling alleys, live music venues and so much more.

What’s great about shopping here is that you have plenty of great local shops and stores to choose from so there’s never any shortage of places to shop that will have what you’re looking for.

Theater – Another benefit of visiting or living in Portland Oregon is the vibrant theatre scene that’s happening here all year long. Right now you can enjoy Christmas classics like Santaland Diaries and a Christmas Carol at theaters across Portland and in January we can expect many new favorites including: Glorious, The Belle of Amherst and Golden Boy.
